Operation Guide

Chain hoist vs. electric opener: which do you need?

Door size, weight and daily use determine whether manual push-up, chain-hoist or powered operation makes the most sense.

Manual push-up

Manual push-up is the simplest setup on a properly balanced door. It works well when the door is a manageable size, used less often and can be reached comfortably from the floor.

Chain hoist

A chain hoist gives the operator mechanical advantage and keeps operation at floor level. It is useful on larger or heavier doors where direct push-up operation is impractical. A reduced-drive chain hoist is standard on every Model 3100.

Electric operator

An electric operator is the convenience choice for frequent use, controlled access or a door that should open without manual effort. The operator must be matched to the door size, available power and duty cycle; full electric operator pricing is confirmed by phone.

What about battery backup?

If battery backup is important, mention it when the operator is specified. Availability depends on the operator chosen, so it should be confirmed along with the building power and desired controls.

Choose the operator with the door—not after it arrives.

We can match the operation method to the opening and how often it will be used.
