Opening preparation
- Verify the ordered width and height against the finished opening.
- Confirm jambs are plumb and the header and floor are level.
- Measure the manufacturer’s required side room and headroom; a hood needs 2 inches of extra headroom and side room.
- Confirm the mounting surface is structurally sound.
Mounting by jamb type
Wood jambs
Fasten the guides directly to solid, plumb wood jambs with the specified lag screws. Verify both guides remain parallel.
Steel jambs
Janus requires steel mounting plates welded or bolted to the jambs. Plates extend 10 inches above the opening top and must be level.
Masonry
Use anchors appropriate for the wall material and door loads, fastening into sound structural masonry—not loose mortar or veneer.
Installation sequence
- Lay out and mount the guides.
- Attach the brackets and hang the barrel and axle assembly.
- Feed the curtain into the guides.
- Set spring tension according to the manufacturer’s procedure.
- Install the bottom bar, stops and locks; test full travel.
The barrel and spring assembly stores substantial energy. Use the manufacturer’s procedure, correct tools and trained help. We strongly recommend professional installation for spring-tension work.
Installation is available across metro Atlanta.
