Door Comparison

Insulated vs. non-insulated roll-up doors: which do you need?

The right choice depends on what happens inside the building and whether the space is heated or cooled.

A non-insulated sheet door is often the straightforward option for unconditioned storage, open-air work areas and buildings where temperature control is not important.

Choose an insulated door for conditioned space

The Janus 2000i, 2500i and 3100i options shown in the calculator are rated R-4.0. They are the better fit when the opening serves a heated or cooled shop, warehouse or work area and you want the door curtain to slow heat transfer.

Insulation can also change how the door feels

An insulated curtain has more material than a non-insulated sheet curtain. That can make the door feel more substantial and can help reduce some noise through the door, although the full building and surrounding opening also affect sound.

When non-insulated makes sense

If the space is not conditioned, the door stays open for long periods or the main goal is secure basic access, non-insulated can be the more economical choice.
