A carport is a roof and posts. Add a commercial roll-up door to one end — or both — and it becomes a secure equipment bay: tools, mowers, trailers, work trucks, and materials locked up tight but still quick to get at. Contractors, landscapers, fleet operators, and property owners do this all the time instead of building a whole new structure.
We're Steel Curtain Doors, a commercial roll-up door company in Suwanee, Georgia. We sell buy-direct with pickup at our shop, and our crews install across metro Atlanta.
### How it works
- Enclose the ends. Most carports take one roll-up door across the open end where vehicles enter, sized to the opening between the posts. Side walls, if the carport doesn't have them, go up as framed panels or metal siding first — the door mounts to the end framing.
- Door sits in the opening. The curtain coils up into a drum above the opening, so you keep the full drive-through clearance. A 10-ft-wide opening takes a 10-ft door; a taller door can be fitted to a shorter opening by trimming the guides, with the extra curtain staying on the roll.
- Security without complexity. A roll-up door takes slide locks top and bottom. Dropped and locked, a carport bay is a steel box — no swinging doors to catch the wind, no padlocked gates with gaps.
### What carport owners ask us about
- Door size. Measure the opening between the posts — not the roof width. Our How to Measure guide walks you through it in five minutes.
- Chain hoist vs. electric operator. A bay opened a couple of times a day does fine on a chain hoist. Daily fleet use — trucks in and out all day — earns its keep faster with an electric operator.
- Wind and weather. A sealed-up carport bay with brush and jamb seals plus a header seal keeps rain, dust, and critters off your equipment. Ask us about wind-rated models if your site is exposed.
- Color. Stock doors come in Satin White; other colors are special order with a 2–3 week lead time. Plan it into your timeline if the carport face matters.
